The Solana Foundation is a nonprofit foundation based in Zug, Switzerland. Its stated mission centers on decentralization, adoption, security, and making the Solana protocol more censorship resistant.

Current programs

The Foundation operates grants and funding initiatives and a validator delegation program. Program criteria, recipients, delegations, and priorities can change, so applicants and validators should rely on current official terms.

What the Foundation does not control

Solana is a permissionless network run by independent validators using client software from separate engineering organizations. The Foundation does not sign users' transactions, control application programs or assets, guarantee projects, or unilaterally determine every protocol upgrade.

The 2024 source described a proposal process reviewed by a Solana Foundation Council. The migration removes that unsupported structure. Protocol design, validator consensus, current on-chain governance platforms, application DAOs, and the Foundation's internal organizational governance are separate systems.

Ecosystem relationships

The ecosystem includes validators, Anza and other client teams, infrastructure providers, application developers, researchers, token holders, users, independent communities, and commercial organizations. A grant, conference appearance, directory listing, delegation, or collaboration does not establish an audit, endorsement, partnership, or guarantee unless the relevant organization says so.

How to verify a claim

  • Check the Foundation's current site and program terms.
  • Use the relevant client repository and release notes for software status.
  • Inspect the specific governance program and proposal for an on-chain vote.
  • Verify project relationships through primary announcements from both named parties.
  • Distinguish a proposed initiative from one that is funded, implemented, activated, or complete.
